We're owned by two Boxers, Star and Sam who were both adopted through a rescue organization. Star arrived first in July 2003. She just turned two in February and is all Boxer energy! It appears that she was never properly socialized but she's learning with the help of family, friends and other dogs. She still has too much energy for her own good but is also one of the sweetest dogs around. Now if she could only learn to swim.......
Sam arrived Labor Day weekend 2003. He's estimated to be around 8 years old but it's hard to tell. He's had a hard life and many medical problems. Sam was found living in a neglectful situation by a good samaritan and pulled into rescue. He was emaciated and had infected sores all over him from fly, flea and tick bites. After being diagnosed gravely anemic, infected with heartworms, intestinal parasites and infested with fleas and ticks, he went to live with Steve and Destiny to be nursed back to health so he could begin heartworm treatment. It was then discovered that he was also in renal failure, the cause of which is still unknown. After many months of careful medical attention, lots of worry and plenty of love, Sam is recovering well. He's clear of all infestations, heartworm negative, has gained weight and even went through neutering (much to his dismay). The renal failure is not reversible so he'll always be on special food and his labs will be followed closely but most of the time, it's hard to tell that he's considered a "senior" dog, let alone a dog with "special needs".
May 2004 - Another rescue Boxer has wiggled her way into our home. Lilly moved in on 05/24. She's just six months old and has recently had her left rear leg amputated due to severe bone infection. She's cuddly, precious, independent and all Boxer! Photos posted today (5/25) will show that her sutures haven't yet been removed. That's later this week. She gets around well, navigates the steps perfectly and definitely holds her own with Star and Sam.
Welcome to our zoo. :-)
July 2004 - Lilly is continuing to do well. She was spayed recently and came through wonderfully. She is having some UTI issues that are a bit challenging to everyone but we're confident it will all work out. She's had a hard life in her few months and with all the antibiotics and other meds she's been on, it's no wonder she's going to have some "side effects". She has no clue that she's got a bug though and is trying to boss both Star AND Sam. Star doesn't mind. Sam is another story!February 2005 - Interested in Boxers or rescue organizations? Both Steve and Destiny are members of Boxer Aid & Rescue Coalition, Inc. BARC is a non-profit Boxer rescue org serving north Florida and south Georgia. We're so involved, in fact, that we currently have a foster named Greta who's battling many, many health issues. We'll hopefully have this site updated soon with photos of her as well as new photos of Star, Sam and Lilly!
